Manchester youth groups launch campaign against funding cuts

Voluntary youth groups in Manchester have launched a campaign against council proposals to cut future youth spending.

Greater Manchester Youth Network, an umbrella body for 42 voluntary sector youth organisations in the city, said Manchester City Council’s proposal to cut the £1.08m Youth Fund over the next two years could see projects for vulnerable young people close down and their safety put at risk.

The group has set up a Save the Youth Fund campaign page and a petition on the council’s website, which has already received 1,100 signatures, and is being backed by UK Youth. It aims to gather 4,000 signatures by 22 November so that the issue can be debated at a full council meeting.
