'Devastating' Manchester youth cuts must be reversed, warns campaigner

Manchester City Council's plans to cut future youth spending will have a "devastating impact" on young people, a youth campaigner has warned.

Ross Grant, development manager at Voluntary Youth Manchester, urged the council to scrap its plans to cut the £1.08m Youth Fund during a meeting of the children and young people scrutiny committee.

The authority is currently consulting on plans to combine its youth and play services budgets, worth a combined £4.98m, into one single fund before reducing it by £2.17m over the next two years.

The plans put the Youth Fund, which pays for youth clubs, detached youth work and mentoring, at risk but a council report does not give details on the level of proposed cuts to the fund.
