
The taskforce will bring together local government leaders in the 10 areas worst affected by worklessness to co-ordinate plans to “tackle the crisis” of young people not in education, employment or training, alongside businesses, the third sector, trade unions and academics.
It will also monitor the impact of the coalition government's attempts to reduce youth joblessness and will oversee a network for Labour councils, to allow them to share best practice and innovative ideas.
