Kent's work with young offenders 'disappointing'

1 min read Youth Justice Inspections
Kent's youth offending team has been criticised by government inspectors for failing to protect young people or the public.

The latest core case inspection of the team by probation inspectors found work to safeguard young people was carried out well just 59 per cent of the time. This is well below the England and Wales average of 68 per cent.

In terms of work to protect the public, this was carried out well 53 per cent of the time, compared with a national average of 63 per cent.

Work to prevent reoffending was also below the national average of 70 per cent and was carried out well only 68 per cent of the time.

Julie Fox, assistant chief inspector for Her Majesty’s Chief inspector of Probation, described the findings as "disappointing".
