Inspectors find insufficient progress in equality and diversity work at Parc YOI

A young offender institution (YOI) dubbed the "best in England and Wales" has made insufficient progress in improving its equality and diversity work, inspectors have found.

An independent review of progress visit to Parc YOI, based in south Wales, investigated the facility’s progress in areas which had been identified as in need of improvement at an unannounced inspection last year.

These included concerns around safeguarding, pre-release and resettlement, and the YOI's equality and diversity work.

Inspectors found insufficient progress in the YOI’s equality and diversity work since its inspection last year, which found that there was “no oversight or responsibility for equality and diversity work at Parc and analysis of data remained limited”.

Despite a recommendation that leaders should provide effective oversight of equality and diversity work, with thorough scrutiny which considers all protected characteristics, the recent progress visit found that insufficient progress has been made towards this goal.
