Inspectors deliver damning verdict on Greenwich YOT

A London youth offending team (YOT) must take drastic action to improve safeguarding and its work to protect the public, inspectors have claimed.

The report found that services delivered by Greenwich YOT suffered when it moved to new premises in July 2011.

The service also suffered additional pressure as a result of the August riots last year and was affected by staffing pressures, including the absence of those occupying key roles, which had led to a reliance on short-term contracts with locum staff. Despite this, inspectors found "a committed and enthusiastic staff group".

However, inspectors said that "neither staff nor managers were getting to grips with starting the process of assessment and planning sufficiently quickly after orders were made or children and young people were released on supervision in the community".
