The latest news is another disappointment for the sector, which has been left reeling from government cuts to the Labour administration’s play strategy.
Just last week a joint funding bid from Play England and Learning Through Landscapes for a play work project aiming to improve the lives of children and young people was rejected by the government.
Adrian Voce, Play England director, said: "The government has confirmed that it will not be renewing any play contracts with us. This is really worrying for the whole children’s sector because for the first time in decades there will not be a national policy focus for children’s play. That should be deeply worrying to anyone who cares about children’s health and wellbeing."
