Voce to step down as Play England chief

Director of Play England Adrian Voce is to step down from his post by the end of the month.

The charity, which campaigns to give all children access to free, inclusive play provision, has announced that Catherine Prisk, who has been joint director with Voce in a job share arrangement since May, will take on his responsibilities by the end of this week.

In recognition of his contribution to improving children’s lives, Voce was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list in June. Voce was head of the organisation for five years and oversaw the delivery of two key funding programmes under the Labour government’s Play Strategy.

But in the past year the play sector has suffered some of the severest cuts in the country, with Play England falling victim to the coalition’s decision to end all its contracts with the national play organisation.
