Funding watch: Community Assets and Services Grants Scheme

1 min read
- What is it?

The Community Assets and Services Grants Scheme, administered by the Social Investment Business Group, is designed for groups or organisations thinking of taking over the management of a local building and running a service. It provides financial help towards the cost of purchasing an asset while the services grants are available towards the cost of running services. Examples of previous "asset transfers" from local authorities to community ownership include an old primary school in Leeds that was turned into an arts and enterprise centre.

- How much is available?

There is a total £4.75m of assets grants available in 2013/14. The minimum grant available is £100,000 and the maximum is £500,000. All grants must be spent within the financial year. For those applying for community services grants, the size of investment that is applied for depends on the value of the contract a group is seeking to take over. Pre-feasibility grants of up to £10,000 to help you through the early stages of an application, and feasibility grants of up to £100,000 to help preparations to take over an asset or service are also available.
