EYFS results show girls still outperform boys before school

1 min read Early Years
Boys are continuing to do less well than girls before they start school, results for the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) for 2010 show.

The EYFSP measures the achievements of children aged five against 13 assessment scales, with a possible nine points within each scale. The 13 assessment scales are grouped into six areas of learning.

For each assessment scale, a higher proportion of girls than boys work securely (achieving six points or more) within the Early Learning Goals. Since 2009, this gender gap has narrowed by one percentage point in three assessment scales and remained unchanged in the other 10.

The largest gender gap between those achieving six or more points in 2010 is in communication, language and literacy: writing. This assessment scale also had the largest gender gap in achievement in 2009.
