Early years curriculum failing poor white and Bangladeshi boys

The government's early years curriculum is failing to help poor white and Bangladeshi boys to keep up with their peers.

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) profile results show that less than a quarter (24.8 per cent) of white British boys eligible for free school meals achieved a good level of performance at age five, compared to the national average of just over half (51.6 per cent). This gap has not closed since 2008.

The percentage of Bangladeshi boys eligible for free school meals achieving a good level of performance was the same as their white peers, but the gap between them and the national average has widened. Black Caribbean boys on the other hand narrowed their attainment gap with 27.4 per cent achieving a good level of performance.
