The Department for Culture, Media and Sport's vision, Time for Play'sets out the Government's plans for play. The sec-tor had hoped thedepartment would put pressure on the Department for Education and Skillsto include play in the services extended schools must provide.
However, speaking to Children Now, culture minister David Lammy ruledout the move. He added that Time for Play covered the area sufficientlyand said: "This is a good moment for play after a long period offighting to get this up the agenda."
Adrian Voce, director of the Children's Play Council, said the documentwas a "good first move" in acknowledging the importance of play. But, headded, following 2004's national play review Getting Serious About Playchaired by Labour MP Frank Dobson, the Government promised a strategicpolicy outline.
