Essex sets out plans to outsource management of 85 children's centres

Early Years
Essex County Council has revealed it is prepared to pay around 26m to outsource the running of 85 children's centres over two years starting in April 2012.

Existing contracts for the centres are due to expire in April next year with current providers include 4Children, the YMCA and East Potential.

A spokesperson for Essex County Council said: "Essex County Council remains committed to all the county’s children’s centres and the important services that they deliver to parents, carers and children. However, this gives us an important opportunity to review provision and ensure we deliver services that are effective and offer value for money.

"Any bidders tendering for the contracts will be expected to demonstrate their ability to provide high-quality early intervention and preventative services, which support families with young children.
