A report on the council’s "new strategic direction" reveals that prominent children’s services will be among those to be considered as early adopter services.
"Not all will proceed and it is the intention that lessons will be learned by going through this process," the report states.
The report also states that the statutory duty for child protection services will continue to rest with the authority due to the consequences of such a service failing.
Jasmine Ali, consultant for the Local Government Information Unit’s Children’s Services Network, said it is important that the council remains accountable. "If they are going to outsource child protection they have to make sure they maintain accountability."
