The report, which examines how schools successfully increase attainment for white boys from deprived backgrounds, emphasises the link between emotional well-being and achievement.
It recommends that schools encourage boys to join youth and community groups so that they feel they have something to add to the life of the school and community.
The watchdog’s report also highlighted the importance of making parents and carers feel valued in the school environment.
It said schools must use flexible creative strategies to engage parents and carers in a way that empowers them.
British white boys from low-income backgrounds traditionally make less progress at school than pupils from other groups.
