DfE publishes updated kinship care guidance for councils

The Department for Education has published updated statutory guidance for local authorities around supporting kinship families.

The 59-page documentsets out a framework for the provision of support to kinship families, and how family networks can be engaged to support the needs of children throughout the children’s social care system, including those who are unable to live with their parents”.

It states that “in particular it provides guidance on the implementation of the duties in the Children Act 1989 in respect of children and young people who, because they are unable to live with their parents, are being brought up by members of their extended families, friends or other people who are connected with them”.
