Councils say integrated services have improved access to advice and guidance

1 min read Youth Work
Four out of five local authorities claim that Integrated Youth Support Services (IYSS) have improved access to information, advice and guidance, and positive activities for young people, according to research by the National Youth Agency (NYA).

The findings were based on responses from 105 heads of IYSS in a survey conducted by NYA in April this year. IYSS have been set up in every council since 2008 in order to co-ordinate services such as youth work, careers advice and targeted support for vulnerable teenagers.

According to the NYA survey, only 58 per cent of local authorities felt the way young people’s services were delivered had improved. But 87 per cent said the integration of services meant better access to information, advice and guidance for young people, while 86 per cent had seen an improvement in access to positive activities.
