Campaign to boost fostering in the North West attracts 750 enquiries

1 min read Social Care
A campaign involving 23 councils that is aimed at plugging the shortfall of foster carers in the north west of England has attracted 750 enquiries in its first month.

The You Can Foster campaign, which it is hoped will save £3.7m from the bill incurred by paying for outside foster care placements, has featured on TV, radio and print media and attempts to convey the message that there is no "typical" foster carer.

In the North West there is a shortfall of between 1,700 and 2,000 foster carers. The shortfall across England is currently in excess of 8,200.

Children’s minister Tim Loughton praised the collaboration. "Other areas should take note of what is happening here in the North West. Greater achievements can be made by working in partnership on this scale," he said. "It’s clear the North West is leading the way in delivering high impact and value for money recruitment drives."
