BSF schools results improve

1 min read Education
GCSE results at three out of four of the first secondary schools built through the government's multi-billion pound Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme have improved significantly.

The proportion of students getting five GCSEs grades A* to C at the Bristol Brunel Academy, the first BSF school to open, rose from 30 per cent in 2007 to 62 per cent this year.

At Chaucer Business and Enterprise College, 49 per cent of GCSE pupils gained five grades A* to C in 2008, compared to 39 per cent in 2007 and at Sheffield Oxclose Community School, Sunderland the percentage rose from 66 per cent in 2007 to 77 per cent this year.

The only BSF school that didn’t achieve improved results was All Saints College in Newcastle, where the proportion of students getting five GCSEs grades A* to C dropped from 48 per cent in 2007 to 41 per cent in 2008.
