Ban on alcohol advertising called for after millions of children saw alcohol ads during World Cup

1 min read Health
Campaigners are calling for a 9pm watershed on alcohol advertising after finding that millions of children as young as four were exposed to alcohol marketing during the football World Cup.

In a report released by Alcohol Concern today, figures suggest the total number of children exposed to alcohol adverts during the World Cup could be as high as five million when taking all the live games shown into account; 1.6 million children viewed three alcohol adverts during England’s game against Algeria and 1.4m saw four alcohol adverts during the game against the US.

The alcohol adverts were all shown between 8pm and 10pm and were deemed within advertising regulations, but Alcohol Concern wants to see a 9pm watershed ban for alcohol adverts introduced and a ban on advertising alcohol on the internet.
