Q. Our nursery children remain fixated on dinosaurs, but I'm running out of ideas to feed their interest. Can you help?
Dinosaurs existed for millions of years, but we seem to always focus on the big four: Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops and Diplodocus. So do some research to extend your knowledge. Try the How do Dinosaurs ... books by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.
Take the children through a dinosaur's life cycle. Make and bury a dinosaur egg. Eggs can be made with papier-mache. Create a sand or mud pit to bury the egg. Set up the birth, zigzag in the shell, and then develop the dinosaur journey. Put them in different places all around the nursery with a range of scenarios. Get the children to narrate their story of the dinosaurs coming to nursery.
