
From April, the UK-wide programme will receive £4m, up from the £3m allocated for 2010/12.
Individual projects will now be able to bid for grants worth up to £50,000, double the previous year’s maximum of £25,000. Previously, the programme had only been open to 13- to 25-year-olds, but has been extended to reach those aged 11 and above to reflect the changing needs of the youth sector.
Dame Jenny Abramsky, chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund, said: "Over the past 10 years we have seen some great projects come out of Young Roots – led by passionate young people who have been exploring their heritage in new ways while developing skills and confidence.
