Peterborough Youth Service's locality manager Javed Ahmed still remembers the delight of discovering three years ago that the council was to receive a serious chunk of money to put in young people's hands. "In terms of youth work, it was brilliant. I read the guidance and thought 'a youth worker must have written this'," says Ahmed, who has lead responsibility for Peterbrough's £124,000 youth opportunity fund and £107,000 youth capital fund allocations.

"We've got a great deal of support from the national YouthBank," he says. "Young people have been able to attend training events and it's good being connected on a national scale."
