Youth Opportunity Fund: How we spent it in ... Bolton

The panel has refined its recruitment process and the amount of money projects can apply for, writes Tim Burke.

Bolton's youth opportunity and youth capital funds are distributed by the Cash Panel. For 2008, the panel of young people has been given £281,000 for the youth opportunity fund (YOF) and £161,000 for the youth capital fund (YCF).

Bolton is also one of the 50 authorities each receiving £452,000 through YCF Plus, the Youth Taskforce programme announced in March that is providing additional funds to disadvantaged areas.

The panel, which currently involves some 50 young people, meets and trains as one, but splits into four groups to consider applications. Three of the groups consider applications from different parts of the borough, while the fourth looks at authority-wide work. They meet at the YMCA in the town centre.
