I'm responsible for the northern territory, which in the strange way the Red Cross carves up the country consists of everything from about Northampton to the Scottish Borders. I'm based in Liverpool and have five area managers working with me.
The Red Cross refocused its approach in 2003 from having youth groups to being an organisation that works with young people. It's a more strategic approach that has seen us working closely with partners. Our work focuses on four areas: emergency response, first aid training, health and social care, and working with refugees and vulnerable migrants. We try to ensure that young people support us in all of these areas, whereas in the past they may have been a bit of a bolt-on.
