Portsmouth Foyer's Neets programme

Aim To give young people the skills and confidence to get into education, employment, or training
Funding
£129,000 from the European Social Fund via Southampton City Council

More than 50 young people have gained a new direction in life thanks to a programme for those not in education, training and employment (Neet) run by the Portsmouth Foyer.

The programme, which began in autumn 2008 and ran until March this year, gave 16- to 19-year-olds the chance to participate in a wide range of activities and gain new skills and confidence.

It was part of a wider Neets programme led by Southampton City Council, and involved mainly young people living in the Portsmouth Foyer's accommodation for disadvantaged young people, but also included some from the Isle of Wight.
