What do you do?
My role is about safeguarding children who are in employment. Parents, young people and employers are often not aware of this regulation - I know I wasn't when I was working as a youngster. We advise young people on the sort of work they can do, the hours they can work and the permits they need. I hold child employment sessions in schools, as well as visiting employers to ensure they know their obligations. I try to work with employers rather than catch them out, but we can and do prosecute when we need to.
