- How did you start working with young people?

 

During my last year of equine studies at university, I started volunteering at a school. I loved spending time with young people and building relationships with them. I realised this was what I wanted to do and that youth work was better for me than teaching.

- So you started applying for jobs?

Yes, I got a job as junior youth club leader at Warwickshire County Council, which meant doing its Introduction to Youth Work course. The full-time youth worker encouraged me to start running sessions with young people too. Eventually I got an assistant youth worker post for 25 hours a week.
