How did you first get involved in youth work?

I'd been working in IT for 10 years when I started volunteering at my local church. I enjoyed the relational side of it and knowing that just being me was enough. I also volunteered with Clubs for Young People in Nottingham.

So you decided on a change of career?

I was attracted to the youth work and theology degree at St John's College in Nottingham and went for an informal chat. It was a big leap of faith for me to give up a career. My previous experience of higher education had not been good, but the staff were so reassuring.
