The reconnaissance stage

I always knew that I wanted to work with people. It wasn’t until I embarked on a college placement working in a combined youth hostel and drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre at the age of 17 that I really had my eyes opened to some of the harsh realities of adversities young people face. Working with such a fantastic team of professionals from medical to social work backgrounds and my supervisor, who was himself a qualified youth worker, influenced my decision to engage on the community and youth work course at university. This decision was pivotal in shaping my future career working with young people.
