I always wanted to care. I started life after school at agricultural college living my dream working on a dairy farm milking cows morning and night and rearing calves.

The working hours did not fit well with having a family. I continued working on the dairy one morning and evening each week before and after my new role as a school cook.

During this time my family and I provided emergency respite foster care for young people. This of course had challenges and many rewards.

After several years I decided to pursue a career. Initially I thought it would be in social care and then realising I could get a bursary for nursing I signed up for a registered diploma in children nursing.
