
It is getting on for 2.40pm by the time Chris Preddie turns up outside the tube station, some 40 minutes later than arranged. He’s been up since 7am giving numerous interviews and apologises profusely for over-running, although, given the demands on his time, an unpunctual arrival is somewhat understandable.
Just the day before, he was at Buckingham Palace receiving an OBE from the Queen for his contribution to youth work. The mixture of his youth (he is 24) and vibrant personality, combined in no small measure with the controversy that has surrounded his honour, have made him a highly sought-after media commodity.
