My current role was advertised as an 18-month contract, but it sounded so exciting that I went for it - and 10 years later I'm still here.

I have always worked closely with young people, having previously been in training. The project's aim is to reduce child abuse by working with the next generation to help them to become the best parents they can be.

We try to make them aware of the strains of being a parent, how it affects your relationships and how you can cope with these challenges. We deliver the programme through schools in the Cumbria region using volunteers, who are encouraged to create an atmosphere conducive to discussion. Teenagers can be challenging to deal with, but it may be because they lack confidence. We show volunteers how to ensure everyone talks about their concerns. I accompany them on their first visit to a school - after that they are on their own.
