I don't know, I take my eye off the ball for a few months to have a baby and you all go and elect a government that plans to cut Sure Start services. Speaking as someone who is currently very grateful for the support they provide, particularly the drop in play sessions which allow HackneyChild to play in a safe environment while I nurse his unputdownable brother (I am typing this one handed), I am quite upset about this. It's not just selfishness, I genuinely believe the universal nature of the service is important and worth keeping. Take the excellent play drop in run by the Ann Tayler Centre, where children from across the community are able to play together (or fight each other for toys). What would be gained by operating a kind of play segregation, so the needier children all play together in the children's centre and the less needy play separately somewhere else (where I don't know) and never the twain shall meet?
