I know that social workers, and those managing the adoption system locally and nationally, really want adoptions to work, and the systems in place are designed to secure that happy outcome.
But the fact is that adoption processes are slow, bureaucratic and too often distressing to both children and adoptive parents. I've talked to too many adoptive parents who were deeply scared by the whole process.
