Education secretary Gavin Williamson revealed plans to increase investment in the ASF from £40m last year (2019/20), to £45m this year (2020/21).

A further £1m will be provided for regional adoption agencies, working with voluntary organisations, to run recruitment campaigns aimed at finding adoptive families for BAME children.

Recent government figures show that of the 2,700 children waiting for adoption, almost 40 per cent have waited over 18 months - of these, 24 per cent were from BAME backgrounds.

The funding will also be used to help recruit adoptive families for other groups including siblings and older children.
