Children’s sector lays out priorities for new Prime Minister Liz Truss

Leaders and organisations from across the children and young people’s sector have laid out the key challenges they would like to see new Prime Minister Liz Truss prioritise as she replaces Boris Johnson.

Truss, who beat former Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak to number 10 with 57 per cent of Conservative Party members votes, used her victory speech to pledge to "deliver on the energy crisis".

Freezing energy bills is expected to be among Truss’s main solutions as thousands of families struggle to afford to buy food and heat their homes. 

Organisations supporting vulnerable children have warned of the impact of the crisis on young people’s education, health and wellbeing while others have said links between poverty and increased domestic abuse and neglect could push more children into care.
