An internal update sent to ICHA members, seen by CYP Now, states that “some staff and providers are beginning to raise concerns about what might happen when the lockdown lifts”.

“There are worries about an influx of young people needing placement and a potential increase in illness either through Covid or other opportunistic bugs,” Liz Cooper, deputy chief executive of the ICHA said.

Cooper put the concerns, in part, down to a slowing of court proceedures during the lockdown period.

"You have these children on the edge of care and the issues are being reported but the process through the courts has been delayed so it is inevitable that these children will come into care eventually," she said.
