
An internal document sent to members of the Independent Children’s Homes Association (ICHA), and seen by CYP Now, said of more than 400 children’s homes polled at least 200 had accepted or would be willing to accept new placements despite lockdown measures imposed in the UK in March.
However, it added that around 50 per cent were not currently accepting referrals as they were full or felt accepting new children “may destabilise” situations within children’s homes.
“Those that didn’t were full, felt that bringing a child in may destabilise those already in placement or felt the referrals were unsuitable for their homes. Two providers were waiting until some of the restrictions have started to lift before considering whether to accept children,” the document states.
