Increasing numbers of children’s home staff forced to self-isolate, sector leaders warn

Children’s home providers are experiencing an increase in staff members forced to self-isolate due to Covid-19, warns the Independent Children’s Home Association (ICHA).

In an internal newsletter sent to members of the ICHA, deputy chief executive Lynn Hollingsworth described “frustration” among providers who said “in any other circumstances, staff would be working, and they would naturally go off if worse affected”.

“There has undoubtedly been an increase in the number of staff off for Covid-related purposes. Some live with someone who is positive, others are self-isolating because they received a message through the test and trace app and a small number are showing symptoms,” she said.

One company which has homes in areas currently under Tier 2 and Tier 3 restriction “has been particularly hard hit”, the memo states.
