
The inspectorate is working with local authorities and children’s home providers to fast-track new applications in an effort to get more capacity into the care system. It said it had completed around 60 successful applications over the past four weeks, triple the number of registrations it would normally process in a month.
Despite a fall in child protection activity in the first weeks of the lockdown, Ofsted said there has been a rise in the need for children’s home placements during the pandemic, both from children already in the care system unable to stay in their current home and children newly coming into care that urgently need somewhere to live.
