Care Review evidence group warns against hasty reform

Members of an evidence group working to advise on the implementation of recommendations made in the Independent Review of Children's Social Care have warned of the need to “carefully consider” proposals and their impact on the sector before “progressing at pace”.

Members of the evidence group, which used research to support the Care Review in an advisory capacity, have published a blog to further advise on the implementation of the review’s recommendations.

Despite calls for urgent action on children’s social care reform, the group urges the Care Review’s National Implementation Board to consider recommendations in-depth before acting on them.

The blog was co-authored by Professor Leon Feinstein, Professor Geraldine MacDonald, Professor Paul Bywaters, Dr John Simmonds, Professor Karen Broadhurst, Professor Donald Forrester, and Dez Holmes.

Members wrote: “Given the scale of reform proposed, there is an equally strong argument for thinking carefully about a number of the issues raised before progressing at pace.
