The Department for Education says it particularly wants to hear from those aged 14 to 30 currently in care or with previous experience of the care system for its investigation into the use of unregulated provision.

Despite the consultation officially closing today (Wednesday), the DfE said it was extending the deadline until 23 June for young people to submit their relevant experiences.

The consultation was first launched in February in response to several reports highlighting risks from abusers and criminal gangs towards 16- and 17-year-olds placed in unregulated supported accommodation.

This could include settings such as hostels, foyers, flats, shared housing and supported living.
