DfE launches consultation on quality standards for unregulated supported accommodation

The Department for Education has launched a consultation on proposed quality standards for unregulated supported accommodation for 16- and 17-year-olds in England.

Announcing the consultation, which comes following a ban on the use of such provision for under-16s introduced in September last year, the DfE says the proposed standards aim to “ensure all children in care live in safe homes and receive the support they need ahead of leaving care”.

“The consultation proposes a range of new standards designed to address the quality of the accommodation itself, as well as the support, protection and leadership available,” the department adds.

The announcement also highlights that the proposals are already backed by £142m in DfE funding over three years.
