Turning It Around: What Do Young Women Say Helps Them To Move On From Child Sexual Exploitation?

Achieving a definition of child sexual exploitation (CSE) is an important part of tackling the issue. A new definition is due to be issued by the Home Office in the near future along with guidance from the Department for Education. A transaction or exchange is often a key element of CSE, with the young person receiving - or being led to believe they will receive - something in return for involvement in sexual acts. This might be food, drugs, affection, promised protection. Violence and intimidation are not uncommon, along with manipulation and coercion, and exploiters, power may be increased by differences in age; intellect; gender; physical strength; economic/other resources.
