NCB Now: Sowing the Seeds at City Hall

1 min read
NCB is delighted to show its support for the Sowing the Seeds report, which was launched at City Hall on17 November by the London Sustainable Development Commission.

Sowing the Seeds looks at how London children are missing out on the everyday encounters with nature that their parents enjoyed as children. The report finds that spending time in nature is part of a "balanced diet" of childhood experiences that promotes children’s healthy development, wellbeing and positive environmental attitudes.

Written by Tim Gill, who in an earlier role set up the Children’s Play Council based at NCB, Sowing the Seeds sets out recommendations for reconnecting London children with nature.

NCB’s Jo Butcher will be providing her knowledge of children’s health issues as a member of the steering group tasked with taking forward the report’s recommendations. As part of her Young London Leaders project to harness the collective power of young people across London to build sustainable communities, Jo will be working with partners in Waltham Forest to support young people to reclaim ownership of natural spaces.
