NCB Now: Learners with learning difficulties triumph

Learners at the School for Profound Education (formerly St Margaret's School) celebrated their achievements and hard work at a special awards ceremony last month.

The school, part of The Children's Trust Tadworth, is one of only a few in the UK to cater exclusively for pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties and complex health needs.

The learners, aged 19-plus, gained modules in the nationally recognised Accreditation for Life and Living scheme, assessed and awarded by the Oxford, Cambridge and RSA Examinations boards.

Subjects included creative arts, ICT, home management, communication and personal skills, with each of the learners gaining at least one certificate. The qualifications enable learners to build evidence-based profiles of their achievements reflecting their own needs and skills.

Head teacher Jan Cunningham said: "It is a pleasure and an honour to celebrate the achievements of our learners - they've worked so hard and are a real credit to the school."
