The Our Voice website aims to enable young women to make friends as well as discuss issues that affect them such as parenthood or financial problems.
A YWCA spokeswoman said that Our Voice worked in a similar way to Facebook, except that it is moderated to "eliminate the risks of cyberbullying that so many social networking websites present".
The spokeswoman added: "The website will help young women to make friends with women in YWCA centres as well as enabling them to discuss political issues - such as lap-dancing in pubs - and speak to women who have similar interests, such as training to become a plumber, for example."
