YPN Foundation National Youth Conference: Baroness to chair ministerial group

1 min read
Baroness Andrews will chair a ministerial group to ensure the Government implements Social Exclusion Unit recommendations on young people with multiple needs.

Phil Woolas, minister for local government in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, is also involved in driving through the reforms. Speaking at the Young People Now Foundation National Youth Conference last week, Woolas said the proposals contained within Transitions - Young Adults with Complex Needs had the support of the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister.

The report's 27 action points emphasise the need to align services so young people can move smoothly between adolescent and adult offerings.

Recommendations include blurring the age boundaries in services that young people are entitled to (YPN, 23-29 November, p2 and p9).

Claire Tyler, director of the Social Exclusion Unit, told YPN that the Transitions report, plus three reports published in the New Year, would "inform discussions around the 2007 Spending Review". She said: "All action points were agreed with relevant departments beforehand."
