
In July 2007, the government's 10-year youth strategy, Aiming High for Young People, made a commitment to establish a national body for youth leadership.
Two years on, under the shiny new branding of The Youth of Today, it has finally arrived, promising to expand leadership opportunities for 13- to 19-year-olds.
With a consortium of seven organisations led by The National Youth Agency, the body aims to increase the quality, quantity and diversity of leadership options, while overturning negative portrayals of young people.
Youth-led targets
"It is partly about recognising the great stuff that is already happening and telling stories that don't get the attention they should," explains Adam Nichols, chief executive of Changemakers, one of the consortium partners.
